The Warranty, In Clause Form
What the lifetime warranty covers, who it covers, and what we ask of you.
1. Coverage
Great American Tool Co. warrants each tool sold under our brand against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original owner. If a tool fails under normal use, we will, at our option, replace it with a like kind, or repair it to factory spec, at no charge for parts or labor. For tools ordered through a counter, replacement occurs on the spot from counter stock; for tools shipped direct, replacements leave our Barberton, Ohio facility within 48 hours of claim approval.
2. Eligible Owner
This warranty runs to the original purchaser — the person or company whose name appears on the original bill of sale, or whose name is registered through our online warranty activation within 90 days of delivery. Transfer of ownership terminates coverage on that tool. We honor this without requiring the original receipt at any of our 1,800 authorized service counters, because we can trace every SKU to its forge batch by serial number.
3. What "Lifetime" Means Here
Lifetime means the period during which the original owner owns the tool. We do not impose a year cap, a usage cap, or a "normal wear" carve-out for anything that fails as a result of how it was forged, hardened, tempered, or assembled. Edge wear on cutting tools, finish wear on striking faces, and cosmetic oxidation are not covered, because they are the tool doing its job, not the tool failing its job. If you are not sure which yours is, bring it to a counter — the counter tech will tell you in writing.
4. What The Owner Must Do
Present the tool at any of our 1,800+ authorized service counters in the United States, or ship it prepaid to Great American Tool Co., 480 Newell Street, Barberton, OH 44203. Include the tool's serial number, located on the handle stamp or stamped into the steel sleeve. No receipt required. No claim form required. For fleet accounts (15+ tools) and ENR-ranked contractor accounts, we dispatch an authorized service technician to the yard or job trailer within 48 hours of a service request through the account line.
5. What Happens When A Tool Fails
Step one: a service counter tech inspects the tool and verifies the failure against materials and workmanship. Step two: if approved, the tech issues a like-kind replacement from counter stock in under nine minutes on average. If counter stock is depleted, the tool is shipped from Barberton within 48 hours, in plastic-free recycled-steel packaging, with a prepaid return label for the failed unit. Step three: the failed unit is returned to our Barberton forge for metallurgical review, because every warranty failure is logged against the batch it came out of. In fiscal year 2024, we shipped 1.8 million tools with a 99.4% defect-free rate, and we intend to drive that number lower.
6. What The Warranty Does Not Cover
Tools altered by anyone other than an authorized service counter, tools used outside their published spec (a pipe wrench used as a hammer, a chisel used as a pry bar), tools damaged by fire or by being run over by equipment heavier than the tool itself, and counterfeits or tools not originally sold by Great American Tool Co. We will repair out-of-warranty tools at the Barberton forge for published bench rates — call the counter line at +1 (330) 555-0142 for a quote.
7. The Standing Promise
This warranty has been in continuous effect since 1983, through four recessions and one trade war. It is the promise of the people who forge the tool, the people who ship the tool, the people who stock the counter, and the chairman emeritus whose name is on the original incorporation papers. It is not a marketing offer. It is the operating agreement between this company and the person who bought the tool. We expect to be held to every word of it.
